Voters Won’t Forgive Trump for Iran Losses
Dmitriy Simes Weighed the Risks of a U.S. Ground Operation

Dmitriy Simes, Russian political scientist, historian, and TV presenter, was on the air of Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda.
Dear readers and subscribers,
Events in the world are moving so fast that it’s hard to keep up with them. Crises are multiplying one after another, affecting the interests of dozens of countries. And the war in the Middle East threatens to put almost the entire planet on a hunger strike for oil. It’s clear that the old system of political coordinates is crumbling, but what will replace it? How should Russia respond to these changes, and what should it prepare for, given that our country’s adversaries are once again testing its strength?
What follows is the complete interview translated and adapted to the English language. I am introducing this post with a bio of Dmitriy Simes that I put together when I started this substack project. Read it below:
Trump’s Statements Seem Strange
— Dmitriy, it is undeniable that Donald Trump’s statements have become increasingly contradictory recently. This is particularly evident during the current Iranian crisis. How should we approach this situation?
— Several American guests on my program on Channel One have already expressed the opinion that something is happening to Trump from a psychological perspective and that he is becoming less and less sane. This was mentioned by the well-known economist Jeffrey Sachs, as well as by the TV host Andrew Napolitano, who was friends with Trump in the past and has interviewed him on several occasions. He acknowledges that it is difficult to recognize the president.
